Resumen

Adaptation of Jberis carnosa Willd. subsp. granatensis to pot intensive production with diffcrent protection systems and cropping cycles.Jberis carnosa Willd. subsp. granatensis is one of the autochthonous species of ornamental interest as potted season plants or gardening. This work evaluates the adaplalion of litis spccic to inlensive pot production under different climate control strategies: greenhouse (1) and shade (U), and diffcrent cropping cycles: long or springcropping season (CL) and short or autumn cropping season (CC). The greenhouse and shade (with PE cladding and insect-proof screen respectively) were managed passively by opening-closing the vents and/or extending thc indoor shade screen and outdoorwhite washing, depending on the external environmental conditions.Cropping cycles of the CL and CC treatments started (sowing date) the 251h April and 5Ui October respectively, and finished at the end of June next year. Seedlings, obtained in climate control greenhouses, were transplanted to 0 14 cm pots (1.2 L) 35and 25 Days Aftcr Sowing (DOS) in treatments CL and CC respectively, and then kept under the final experimental conditions. The growing medium was a mixture of blond peat, coir and perlite (3: 1: l /v:v:v) amended with 5g L"1 of a controlled release fertilizer.Irrigation was Jocalized and climate parameters were registered ion both structures. The effect of the treatments on factors like growth, final production of fresh and dry matter of the different plant fraction, moment and characteristics of blooming and the ornamental value ofthe selected plants were evaluated. In ali cases seasonal pot plants of attractive flowering and high ornamental value were obtained, except the greenhouse short cycle in which flowering was very scarce. The evaluated specie, under the adopted environmental and cropping conditions, is easily adaptable to production of pots for ornamental uses.
