Resumen

The low female representation in the positions of Senior Lecturer and Professor in the Internal Geodynamics area of the Complutense University of Madrid lead us to explore the causes of this perception and the inequality that may exist in this area of knowledge. The main objective is to find the possible causes that produce this situation. Therefore, we analyze the percentages of female representation in the disciplines associated with Internal Geodynamics with respect to other areas of knowledge in the Geological Sciences, and we compare them with the data from different universities and research centers in Spain where this geological specialty exists. We also analyze the data of the number of students from the Faculty of Geo- logy, in order to observe if the inequality already occurs in primary stages, during the undergraduate and graduate studies, or if, on the contrary, it is accentuated in later stages during the development of the scientific career, as it happens in other scientific specialties (David, 2017). Indeed, it has been observed that there is a clear generalized inequality in the areas of geology from the postdoctoral stage, which increases from the position of Lecturer/Assistant Professor to Professor, with an alarmingly low representation of women in the area of Internal Geodynamics.
