Zusammenfassung
Geological mapping can be considered today one of the most useful tool in the Earth Sciences. From its beginning in the last XIX century, geological mapping has become relevant for the knowledge and management of the natural resources, evolving to the present and incorporating new technologies. However, some classical methodological aspects are still necessary and cannot be forgotten, as the field work. Now is necessary to combine the classical methodology (fieldwork, laboratory and cabinet) with new tools that allow an improvement in aspects as diverse as the digital capture of data in the field, or the use of airborne geophysical techniques. The current trend is the generation of geothematic maps that include complementary information derived from geological information (geomorphological maps or active processes). Therefore, geothematic mapping is presented as a tool of the future that goes beyond pure geological knowledge and becomes a more interdisciplinary instrument, making geological aspects important for the development of a region present in other sectors (e.g., mineral resources and land-use planning).
