Resumen
The present research studies the reduction of emerging organic pollutants carbamazepine and diclofenac through the use of powdered active carbon (PAC) and granular (GAC). The tests to determine the adsorption capacity of the coal were carried out using the ASTM method D3860-98 (2014), concentrations of the contaminant between 0.7 and 1.9 mg / L were studied and the dose of the active carbon was varied between 4 and 20 mg / L The temperature (25 ± 1 °C) and stirring (300 ± 10 rpm) during experimentation. An HPLC device with a UV detector was used for the analysis. In all cases and for the same dose of coal, in the treatment with PAC, better elimination yields are obtained than with GAC. The results obtained for the highest concentrations of pollutants show that, for a dose of PAC of 20 mg / L, carbamazepine shows yields of 75% reduction, while diclofenac a reduction of 39%. For that same concentration of contaminant but using GAC, the elimination yields were 19% and 24%, for carbamazepine and diclofenac respectively.
