Resum
This paper addresses the academic career, as a teacher and researcher, and the professional path, as manager and expert advisor, of the woman architect and professor of Urban and Land Planning at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Inés Sánchez de Madariaga. The study of her contributions to gender mainstreaming to this discipline and to architecture, with special attention to transport, mobility and housing, which are strategic sectors for the economy and the correction of inequality, is carried out with the aim of highlighting their pioneering condition. Not only are her manifold contributions an essential reference in the multiple works later developed in our country and on an international scale, but also an authentic stimulus to both open new paths in urban policies, theories and practices and operate changes in the reality of our physical and cultural environment. To do so, our method orders, classifies, ponders and exemplifies her different and numerous efforts by areas of innovation. We understand and are convinced that this aspect is precisely that characterizes her entire career. Her whole achievements have been awarded the MITMA Group’s 2021 “Matilde Ucelay” prize, a distinction recognizing the engagement in the pursuit of a more inclusive and equitable society.
