Résumé

Introduction. Every year around 800,000 people commit suicide around the world. There are multiple factors that influence the development of the Werther effect, but is there a relationship between the way of communicating a suicide and the suicidal casuistry? Objective. Analyze the existence and mode of expression of the Werther effect. Methodology. Systematic review of scientific articles by consulting the EBSCOhost, Scielo, and Web of Science databases. Results. Most of the media do not follow the WHO recommendations when reporting a suicide. Some authors have observed a significant increase in cases after the publication of a suicide-related news item, especially when it is about a celebrity. However, it is difficult to link the two events. Conclusions. The Werther effect does not affect all people equally, since the most vulnerable show a greater predisposition to develop this effect.
