Resum

The Messinian coral reef (atoll type)of Santa Pola, placed in the northern sector of the Bajo Seguraneogene basin, is one of the most important places of geoscientist interest from Alicante Province. In this work, the characterization of its geological and paleontological heritage is presented. Firstly, the quantitative patrimonial evaluation is proposed through two different methodologies from the “Instituto Geológico y Minero de España” and “Museo de Paleontología de Elche”. The analyisis of the Digital Elevation Model together with field observation data has allowed to determine the most representative and best preserved “Reef Complex” outcrop. In this site, a three-dimensional model of high resolution with high educational and scientific potential, by the photogrammetric technique “Structure From Motion” was performed. Finally, a selection of points and observational panoramic places marked in the inventory of geological and paleontological sites, the initial starting point for proposed itineraries of educational and tourist/recreational use, is presented.
