Resumen

The analysis of the Ibero-Levantine brachiopod assemblages recorded in the uppermost Pliensbachian-Toarcian interval is carried out for the first time in the Iberian Range. The dynamics of the 6 established assemblages is markedly conditioned by the extinction phases linked to the Early Toarcian mass extinction event (ETMEE), showing a high diversity but a discontinuous stratigraphic distribution. Major diversity turnovers and critical brachiopod-based bioevents are suggested, as the conspicuous occurrence of thecideid representatives (recorded for the first time in the Iberian Range), typifying a pre-ETMEE marker bed, or the earlier occurrence of the “Spanish Fauna” of brachiopods and analogous taxa.
