Resumen

This paper analyzes the mirative sense triggered by the future structures será posible and (no) será verdad in Spanish. Specifically, it is firstly argued that whereas será posible represents a fixed structure with a very versatile mirative meaning, (no) sera verdad still exhibits contextual dependency and shows a more restrictive mirative behavior. Secondly, these structures are related to the definition of future in Spanish, as a deictic instruction of distance forward that can be projected over different levels of meaning. Furthermore, the grammaticalization strategies that será posible and (no) será verdad follow are determined, both from the contructionalization perspective and from the cooptation point of view, and the bridging context where they arise is identified. More generally, this paper outlines the role of the informational configuration in the emergence of the mirative future in Spanish.
