Abstract

Reading is complex skill that requires a long and sustained learning process over time. One of the most widely used arguments in the different attempts to propose innovative options in teaching this skill, focuses precisely on establishing the "pleasure of reading" messages of literary intention. We believe, however, that any innovative advance in the development and establishment of reading skills starts from an essential implementation of radically new options that take into account the strongest proposals of studies on the cognitive processes of reading and their implications. In the same way, we consider that the planning of the teaching of reading carries with it a renewed approach to the options and modalities of evaluation of the students' reading skills. In this regard, we offer some general considerations at the service of a renewed approach to teaching and developing reading skills and their evaluation in the classroom.
