Resumen
The application of the Geographical Information Systems IDRISI has served to define the physical and hydrological peculiarities of the Las Ovejas-Rambuchar Basin located in the southern part of the province of Alicante. The combination of relief and form parameter semphasize the lengthened character of the basin with a topographic decrease steeper at the beginning and softer in the middle course. These physical characteristics inform about an evacuation of the run off in a gradual and ordered way even though it is more rapid in the headwaters and slower in the middle part of the basin. The time of concentration is estimated in 5,95 hours. Through modelation of run off response to high intensity rainy events has been possible to estimated peak discharges of more than 600 m3/s (500 years return period), corresponding to maximun daily precitation of 249 mm (same return period). Nevertheless, the possible communication down stream with other nearby basins would arrive to increase those values.
