Resumo

The aquifer of the Valley of Toluca is located in the Mexican Altipiano, in the center of the Stateof Mexico. It is considered a detrical aquifer with gravel, sands and conglomerates of lacustrine and river origin between which exist layers of piroclasts, breccias and volcanic tuffs. The state of the aquifer is unbalanced as consequence of the high pumpings destined for urban supply of the Mexico City. The over exploitation has generated piezomectric drawnfall of 1,4 m/year inseveral sectors of aquifer. The groundwater is of low mineralitation and the hydrochemistry facies prevailing is of type Na-Mg-HCOy The hydrochemistry is the result of the mixture of thewaters originating from the volcanic fractured aquifers that limit the valley and of the waters ofrain infiltration, as well as of other processes that take place in the aquifer.
