Abstract

In this paper, a review is made on how the training of mathematics teachers has become an emerging field of study and research. At the same time, the research agenda on student learning for the teacher and the professional performance of the teacher is presented. For this, the design of learning environments (Llinares, 2014) supports the initial training of the teacher of mathematics and its learning, as it has become a means to help develop the teaching competence called “looking professionally” (Llinares, 2013) the processes of teaching and learning of mathematics. Finally, a line ofpedagogical research called “Looking professionally” the processes of teaching and learning of mathematics or “a professional vision of the teacher” is presented (Sánchez- Matamoros, Fernández, Valls, García and Llinares, 2012; Sherin, 2001, 2007 ).
