Zusammenfassung

Since it was carried out a decade ago, hundreds of studies have been based on the Spanish ‘Natio-nal Survey of Immigrants’ (ENI 2007), the largest ever conducted in this country. However, the present research about the Moroccan diaspora living in Spain reveals significant inconsistences in the ENI’s data, rooted in the sampling overestimation of previous immigration flows and the underestimation of more recent arrivals. Such bias affects the values of many variables depen-dent on the length of time spent in the host country, and distorts the published statistical profile of Moroccan immigrants, as well as those of other groups of foreign origin. In this period of high tensions over immigration in Western countries, where statistical accuracy is key instrument to study minorities and to implement appropriate public policies for them.
