Abstract

The objective of this article is to recognize the main tourist imaginaries that guide the travel behavior of the Mexican young, under the assumption that the imaginary allow to understand the social behavior and to recognize the sense of the reality in certain spatio-temporal contexts. In this line, a qualitative research was carried out, which had as subjects of study a group of young university students from Univeridad Autónoma del Estado de México, located near of Mexico City, applying as methodological strategy qualitative interviews and discourse analysis. The results allowed the identification of three predominant imaginaries: family union, pleasure of freedom and the encounter with the world and with itself, recognizing that traditional schemes inherited by the family are still preserved along with modern ideas of freedom and improvement.
