Resumen

During the last 10 years, the adhesives and coatings based on waterborne polyurethane dispersions have used in industry because of the absence of organic solvents in their formulation and the excellent properties shown. However, the scientific literature on the structure-properties relations, mainly adhesion properties, of the waterborne polyurethane dispersions, is scarce and, in some cases, controversial. In this study, a review of the main basic concepts and structure of the waterborne polyurethane dispersions is given, including a revision of the methods of synthesis and raw materials used in their synthesis. An ample review of the state of the art dealing with the structure-properties relationships in waterborne polyurethane dispersions have been performed, including the nature and content of internal emulsifier, the solids content, the NCO/OH ratio, the nature and molecular weight of the polyol, the nature and amount of chain extender, and the nature of the diisocyanate
