Abstract

The main scope of this paper is to analyze the role of intellectual, personal and emotional competences, as well as the technical knowledge -academic achievement-, in the employment of higher education graduates. The work starts from a sample of 100 university graduates pertaining to the educational setting. We collect information about academic achievement and intellectual, personal and emotional characteristics of this sample. From these data, and given the importance given to the non-intellectual aspects of intelligence regarding the professional success, the specific contribution -incremental validity- of the personal and emotional intelligence to the explication of the employment of higher education graduates pertaining to educational scope was analyzed. Although the results show that the professional profit the higher education graduates is predicted or explained partly by technical competitions (academic achievement), they are the emotional competitions those that show a greater explanatory power, whereas other factors as general intelligence does not show significant effect.
