Abstract

At the start of the XX century, Daniel Jiménez de Cisneros y Bartolomé Darder Pericás published various works debating if the Reclot massif, East of Pinoso (Alicante), was allochthonous. Recently, it have been found a geological cross-section of the zone preserved in the Jimenez de Cisneros collection that permits to think both authors thoughts were not so far away. Thanks to the debate we know the Sierra del Coto (Crema Marfil stones) were saw by indifference by the nearby inhabitants and were not quarried because in the region other commercial rocks were better considered. However, today the Sierra del Coto quarries are the most important economic resource of the area with a half a million cubic meters of ornamental stone per year.
