Resumen

The late Tortonian and Messinian stratigraphical record of the linkage zone between the Fortuna and Bajo Segura basins has been divided in three major unconformities bounded units. The Tortonian II Unit (TII) represents the open marine sedimentation in both basins; the Tortonian-Messinian Unit (T-M) has swallow marine and restricted basin characteristics, and is made up of three evaporitic groups; in Messinian Unit (M) shows in the Fortuna Basin the fourth evaporitic group, which indicates a lacustrine environment. In our study we propose:1) the Tortonian Salinity Crisis (TSC) initiate in the first evaporitic group of the T-M Unit, bellow the markers of the Discoaster berggrenii/quinqueramus biozone of the late Tortonian;2) The main evaporitic phase (second group, Unit T-M) has taken place in the upper part of the C3Br. 1 n subchron; and 3) the fast shallowing of the Fortuna Basin during the TII and T-M limit, and the Internal Zone provenance of the basal conglomerate of the first evaporitic group, relates the TSC with a tectonic uplift event which isolate the basin.
