Abstract

Tourism is an activity especially exposed to the impact of climate change. Some of the modalities of tourism (sun and sand, snow, big cities) has a high vulnerability to global warming and its associated processes. Increased temperatures and reduction of rainfall are the effects of climate change generally transmitted to society in mass media, with special emphasis on the Mediterranean region. However, other consequences of climate change are less known, and its consequences can particularly affect tourism in the modalities indicated: increasing extreme weather and reduced climate comfort. Tourism should relate to climate change problem with the need to transmit the reality of a complex phenomenon and with the responsibility to prevent extreme positions (drastic change on destinations, disappearance "sun and sand" model, etc..) that can strengthen irresponsible negationits attitudes protected in the absence of obvious manifestations of a medium and long term process. The implementation of mitigation and adaptation measures to climate change will prevent the loss of competitiveness of tourism destinations. Examples of mitigate and adaptation measures to climate change are analyzed.
