Resumen

The hotel sector, a primary producer of the tourism sector, has a great relevance for the Spanish economy. However, it is immersed in a global and changing environment. Therefore, faced with this uncertain situation, the hotel sector has to identify and to analyze what sources of competitive advantage are going to improve its future competitiveness and to adapt to the challenges of its environment. In this study, the importance of the hotel facilities is argued and several reasons are offered to consider them as a source of competitive advantage from the Resource-based view of the firm. In this empirical research, a descriptive analysis of the development of the hotel facilities is made and it is showed that they have a significant impact on performance achieved by 3-to-5-star Spanish hotels.
