Abstract

An analysis for the susceptibility estimation of the slopes in soils to suffer seismic-induced landslides has been accomplished for the drainage basin of the Serpis river. For this, the Newmark’s method has been used, which has been modified to take into account the variability observed in the geotechnical properties of the materials. For this purpose, a Monte Carlo simulation has been employed, where all the geotechnical properties are treated as random variables. The obtained results are expressed as the probability that the critical acceleration of the slope will be less or equal than 0.1g. The highest susceptibilities occur at dry materials, but the amount of surface involved is small. On the contrary, when materials are saturated, Low to Medium susceptibility is widespread, even with slopes as low as 6 – 10º, which are characterized by Very Low to Null susceptibility when soil is dry. The position of the zones with higher susceptibility with respect to constructive elements existing in the area has been analyzed as well.
