Abstract
During the XVIII Century malaria, an endemic illness from the Mediterranean basin, had an unquestionable social dimension. As a consequence, among other things, of the extintion of the terrible effects of the plague. The tertian fever, linked to the expansion of the rice crop and the proliferation of stagnant areas, appeared regularily as soon as the summer heat arrived. The present work analyses its effects on the inhabitants of the southern Valencian lands, as well as the ways in which the responsible authorities and the doctors attempted to repair the damage suffered.
