Abstract

Since the end of the last century The European Project Urban Audit offers information on the quality of life in the main European cities. Starting in 2016, information is available for 109 Spanish cities that are integrated into 45 functional urban areas. The information is disaggregated in the so‐called "Sub‐City District", which allows the identification of urban areas with the highest risk of social exclusion. Although this information is not available at the census section scale, it allows us to classify and describe socially homogeneous areas. The information provided by Urban Audit and by the Municipal Register of Inhabitants describes the social composition at the sub‐municipal level of the city of Alicante studying the distribution of the average income per household as well as the distribution of the foreign population. Based on the results obtained, we want to verify if the urban actions that have been undertaken since 1991 in the neighborhoods of the Northern Zone of Alicante, characterized by the presence of important groups of population at risk of social exclusion have been effective.
