Abstract

Knowledge about the influence of empowerment on academic performance in the students with disabilities is essential to the educational success of this group. The aim of this study was to determine the level of empowerment and its influence on academic performance among college students with different disabilities. The sample consisted of 123 students with disabilities at the University of Alicante with different types of disabilities (motor, visual, auditory, intellectual and multiple disabilities). They said the Spanish version adapted Scale Rogers, Chamberlin, Ellison and Crean (1997), designed to measure this capacity. The scale consists of a total of 28 items, with Likert- type response of 4 points (0 = strongly disagree, 3 = strongly agree). The results show positive relationship in the academic achievement and empowerment. Also, statistically significant differences were found in the empowerment observed less empowerment in students with intellectual, hearing impairment and multiple disabilities, with a higher level of this ability.
