Resumo

Digital development has extended people's abilities and senses. New technologies have empowered disabled people. Some blind and visual impaired people are living in the Digital Society and their political and associative agendas include Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as main way of integration. This research shows a systematic review to identify prime areas and focus on ICT studies related to visual impairment. The main objective is to identify trends at scientific production. Research has been done with combinations of keywords of technological and those of blindness studies in seven academic data bases as: ERIC, ACM, CSA Illumina, Compludoc, ICYT, ISOC and PubMed. Digital Society's selected terms are: Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Mass Media and Computer Mediated Communication; Visual Impairment, Visual Disability and Blindness are the words from disability studies; and finally Tiflotechnology (Typhlotechnology). Research has shown 502 results. Educative-formative and universal access has been revealed as the main concern areas. However, a poor production of trends and communicative uses has been developed by this scientific collective. A chronological and cultural trend is also shown; this can respond to fashion trends in scientific concepts in Digital Society.
