Resumen
We propose to study land use in the recent two decades on the coast of the province of Alicante, for this is to study the characteristics of the new growth and new models of urban and territorial occupation. These regional trends are thought to be a major transformation in land use that involves new spatial and functional relations. The objectives of the work focus, therefore, the identification and characterization of new areas of recent growth and a quantitative assessment —area, density, etc .— and qualitatively —new landscapes, morphology, etc. The proposed methodology starts from the graphical and statistical analysis to address quantitative consideration later. From the comparison between the satellite images offered by the European Corine Land Cover project in Valencian Community for the years 1990 and 2006 aims to identify the main growth areas during these stages. Once defined these growth areas in detail, the graphical analysis approach, arises from aerial photographs for dates closer to the dates of the images provided by Corine Land Cover. Furthermore, different statistical bases offered are used to quantify these growths and to assess their density. The expected results are focused on the characterization and definition of new patterns of urban settlement on the coast of Alicante and territorial characteristics of recent urbanism. The identification of these new residential models can influence future planning and territorial and municipal planning.
