The scant information on the Egyptian Aseneth in the bible resulted in a proliferation of stories to explain her marriage to such a significant person as Joseph, son of Jacob. One of these stories, written in Greek, emerged in the Alexandrian Jewish environment at the start of the common era. This text, known today as the story of Joseph and Aseneth, had an enormous impact and was subsequently taken up by the Christian and Muslim communities, as evidenced by the numerous translations into other languages. This volume includes a critical edition, Spanish translation and introductory study of the first Latin version, produced in England some time before the thirteenth century. This Latin version is of special relevance being the version that Vincent of Beauvais knew and popularised.
