Abstract
The El Rollo outcrop belongs to the easternmost part of the Sierra de Algayat (External Subbetic, Alicante province). The Jurassic is made up of the Gavilan, Zegrf, Veleta and Upper Ammonitico Rosso (U.A.R.) Fms. The last lithostratigraphic unit has two members, the lower (Bathonian age) and the upper (Oxfordian-earliermost Berriasian age). The materials of this formation constitute a relatively tight syncline, the limbs of which consist mainly of rocks of the U.A.R. Em. lower member. The fold shows a typical growth geometry with thin upright limbs and thick subhorizontal hinges. Its core is composed by nearly horizontal rocks of the U.A.R. Em. upper member. The syncline, bounded by two antithetic normal palaeofaults, stretches NI35E. These faults give rise to a narrow subsiding graben where the deposition of the U.A.R. Em. took place simultaneously to the fracturing process.
