Abstract

The patient safety culture is an essential tool to prevent problems arising from hospitalization and adverse events, identifying strengths and areas of improvement. Validated quality measurement instruments are needed to assess the safety climate level and to determine interventions to improve the safety conditions in the operating room. This PhD Thesis provides, from the health professionals' perspective working in the surgical area, criteria for organizing and managing a surgical unit, contributing to the improvement of patient safety conditions. The general aim is to adapt cross-culturally and validate the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire Short Form (SAQ-SF) to measure the health professionals' involvement relating to patient safety in the surgical area for its use in Spain and Italy.
