Abstract

Numerous studies present the practice of dance as an outstanding discipline for the development of perception, body rhythm and creativity, while improving balance, social interaction, as well as academic performance and personal wellbeing, positively influencing the emotional and cognitive development of the person. From this point of view, dance and other artistic disciplines contribute to integral development from childhood, which is why their presence has been incorporated into the Primary Education curriculum since educational legislation at the end of the 20th century. This research focuses on identifying, assessing the level of presence and investigating the curricular development of dance in primary schools (Alicante and province). The research design is based on an exploratory study carried out online, using a survey from the Google forms tool. The results reveal the differentiated treatment and development in each centre, which leads us to conclude that dance is incorporated in primary schools, but with little concrete and clear development, except on the few occasions in which it is incorporated with its own curricular space. All of this leads us to make an important reflection on the teachers who teach this content, opening up a new debate on this aspect.
