Abstract

This article presents the design, construction and programming of an intelligent elbow orthosis to treat elbow joint stiffness, a common complication after trauma or stroke. Using 3D printing, the device has been created to be easily adaptable to each patient, with 3 degrees of freedom that allow flexion-extension and pronosupination of the arm. In addition, it includes a joint designed to relieve the concentration of forces in the elbow during flexion and extension movements.Through sensorization, the orthosis accurately measures the angles of flexo-extension and pronosupination, and thanks to its on-screen interface you can see the evolution of the patient's movement in real time. To solve patients' motivation problems after being discharged from the hospital, the interface includes a game that also serves to generate a detailed report with the most important information for the medical staff, thus facilitating the monitoring and adjustment of treatment.
