Abstract

Higher education is essential in the personal and professional development of students and it must adapt to the demands of society and the labor market. In this sense, this article focuses on the pedagogical proposal of education for peace so that the teaching-learning process is framed in some of its principles in order to make students more peaceful while learning. The present society and theuniversity classroom as a social manifestation require peaceful responses that contribute to promote a peaceful coexistence. In this sense, education for peace offers us the opportunity to work with tools that contribute to the class being a peaceful space where conflicts are resolved without violence and where we work in values and social issues. Our fundamental interest in the application of the principles of peace education in university classrooms does not focus so much on the resolution of conflicts but on the students acquire values that contribute to their integral formation as people. Therefore, opting for an approach based on education for peace offers the opportunity to use pedagogy to produce social transformations because it favors the teaching of values in the teaching-learning process. The main objectives of this article are: to design a series of practical activities in order that the teaching-learning process is framed in the principles of education for peace; to make students reflect on the importance of the principles of education for peace in order to contribute to the construction of a more just and more humane society; to use the pedagogical proposal of education for peace in order for students to acquire social skills that will be very useful for the labor market and for their personal lives. In orderto carry out the objectives presented, a series of activities based on peace education were designed and some social texts were used. The purpose of the activities and the materials used is to helpstudents to work on aspects related to peace and peaceful coexistence so that progress can be made in increasingly democratic societies. This research presents some of the activities that were designed to promote education for peace in the degree of English Studies, specifically in the subjects English Language III and English Language V. It will be pointed out that the activities selected, in addition to encouraging students to improve the different skills in the English language (speaking, listening, writing, reading and interaction), they contribute to the acquisition of social skills related to peaceeducation such as active listening, cooperation, peaceful resolution of conflicts or negotiation, among others. All these competences will be of great utility for students in their personal life in general andin the labor market in particular. In fact, this study establishes a relationship between what is taught in classrooms and real life.
